Soar Valley Western Stables is the home for Horses for Causes, without the team of dedicated volunteers and their continued support, using the land, the stables and the horses - Horses for Causes would not exist or be sustainable.
The 6.1/2 acres of pasture and the 10 stables, is no mean feat to keep tidy, mucked out and maintained. Since the time Malcolm Bray first used Soar Valley Western Stables back in 1998 where there were just the main stable block and two lean to corrugated shelters, the small DIY livery yard has been transformed into a busy hub for equine assisted therapeutic learning.
Our horses' welfare is paramount as without them our work does not become the unique and innovative way to help and support clients. Whilst very much over horsed for the amount of land available, the mix of ages, breeds and backgrounds creates great talking points for people who struggle with confidence and social engagements. Some of the horses are used for horse riding activities although not an approved RDA centre, their experience with helping children and adults with autism, learning difficulties and Downs Syndrome is second to none. Tailor making each session to suit the individual so that the client gets the most benefit.
We hold a local authority with Blaby District Council, all volunteers are DBS checked, our combined insurance cover allows ridden work and groundwork with the horses and ponies.
Take a browse around the stables from the comfort of your own home via the internet, meet the herd and the people that help and support a wide range of abilities with people of all ages.
